How RapidHeat works
Plug it into the wall, pick your temperature, and feel warm air in seconds. Here's exactly what happens inside, in plain English.
By the RapidHeat Canada team · Last reviewed October 19, 2026
Quick answer
RapidHeat is a plug-in wall heater with a PTC ceramic element. A small fan blows air across the hot ceramic, and a digital thermostat switches it on and off to hold the temperature you choose. Eco mode, a timer and overheat protection keep it efficient and safer to use.

From plug to warm in 3 steps
No installation and no instruction manual to puzzle over. If you can plug in a phone charger, you can use RapidHeat.
1Plug it in
Push RapidHeat straight into any standard Canadian wall outlet. No cord on the floor, no tools.
2Pick your temperature
Press power, then set the temperature you want on the unit or with the remote from your chair or bed.
3Feel the warmth
Warm air starts flowing within seconds. Switch to eco once you're comfortable, and set the timer if you like.

What's inside
Four simple parts work together. Here's what each one does.
- PTC ceramic elementHeats in seconds. As it gets hotter, its resistance rises, so it naturally limits its own temperature.
- Quiet fanGently pushes the warm air out into the room so it doesn't just sit by the wall.
- Thermostat sensorKeeps an eye on the temperature and cycles the heater on and off to hold your setting.
- Overheat cut-offSwitches the power off automatically if the inside gets too hot.
The controls, explained
Every control is on the unit and on the included remote, so you can adjust the heat without getting up.

Why ceramic heats fast and stays safer
Old coil heaters glow red-hot. Oil-filled radiators take ages to warm up. A PTC ceramic element gives you quick heat without an exposed glowing coil, and it naturally limits how hot it can get.
| RapidHeat (ceramic) | Coil heater | Oil-filled radiator | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warms up | Seconds | Seconds | Slowly (20+ min) |
| Glowing hot surface | No | Yes, red-hot coils | No, but the body gets hot |
| Limits its own temperature | Yes (PTC ceramic) | No | No |
| Takes floor space | No, plugs into the wall | Yes | Yes, large and heavy |
| Thermostat + timer | Yes, plus remote | Sometimes | Sometimes |

Safety, step by step
Safety features help, and good habits matter just as much. Here's how RapidHeat protects you, and what we ask you to do.
- Too hot? It turns itself offOverheat protection cuts the power automatically if the inside of the heater gets too hot.
- Switches off on its ownSet the timer and RapidHeat turns off by itself, so you don't have to remember.
- Straight into the wallNo extension cords or power bars, which are a common cause of heater fires. RapidHeat is built to plug directly into the outlet.
- Keep 1 metre clearKeep curtains, bedding, clothes and furniture at least 1 metre away, and never cover it.
- Kids and petsKeep an eye on little ones and pets near any heater, and teach children not to touch it.

A typical evening with RapidHeat
It's January and the furnace is set to 18°C to keep the bill down. You head to the bedroom to read. Turn RapidHeat on in high mode and the cold edge is gone within minutes.
Once you're comfortable, switch to eco. The thermostat holds the room at your setting and the fan quietens down. Before lights out, set the timer so it switches itself off.
The rest of the house stays cooler, and you only heat the room you're actually in. That's how zone heating keeps winter bills in check.

How RapidHeat works: your questions
How fast does RapidHeat warm up?
The ceramic element heats within seconds of switching on, and you'll feel warm air right away. How quickly the whole room warms depends on its size, insulation and whether the door is closed.
Do I need to install anything?
No. RapidHeat plugs straight into a standard 120V Canadian wall outlet. There are no tools, brackets or wiring.
Is RapidHeat noisy?
It uses a small fan, so you'll hear a soft hum. Eco mode keeps it gentle once the room is warm, which most people find easy to read, work or relax next to.
What's the difference between high and eco mode?
High mode is for warming a cold room quickly. Eco mode is for keeping it comfortable once it's warm, so the heater works less hard.
How does the thermostat save energy?
You set a temperature and RapidHeat cycles on and off to hold it, instead of running flat out the whole time. Less running time means less electricity.
What happens if it gets too hot?
Built-in overheat protection cuts the power automatically if the inside of the heater gets too hot.
Can I use it with an extension cord or power bar?
No. Like every space heater, plug it directly into a wall outlet. Extension cords and power bars can overheat.
Will it heat my whole house?
No. RapidHeat is made to warm the room you're in, such as a bedroom, office, bathroom or basement room. For bigger spaces, many people use one per room.
How much does it cost to run?
It depends on the heater's wattage, how many hours you use it and your province's electricity rate. Our running-cost guide has a calculator with Canadian rates.
